Our current agriculture system is not working. It incentivizes overproduction and pressures farmers to expand their farms and operations in order to keep up. It’s also exploiting workers and the environment to produce commodities as cheaply as possible for the global market.
One way to make our system work is by implementing policies based on parity – policies that would set a living wage for farmers and use supply management as a tool to rein in overproduction, protect the environment and encourage local, diversified agricultural production.
